We are changing the face of leadership and political power.

Our mission

The Asian American Women’s Political Initiative (AAWPI) is the country’s only political leadership organization for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women.

Our mission is simple: we work to ensure that AAPI women have a voice in our democracy.

Only 0.9%

of elected officials across the country are Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).

Almost 7x as many AAPIs would have to be elected to achieve equal representation.

Our government does not reflect our voices

Our government, where critical decisions about our lives and communities are made, does not reflect us or our voices.

That’s why, for over a decade, we have been building the political pipeline of low-income and immigrant Asian American women leaders in Massachusetts. Over 90% of our alumni have gone on to volunteer or work on campaigns, become organizers and advocates, or run for office.

With the ongoing anti-Asian violence, extreme attacks on our fundamental right to control our bodies, and endless, bold-faced efforts to erase voting rights for communities of color, building political power for Asian American and Pacific Islander women - after so long of being invisible and unseen - is more critical than ever.

In this urgent moment for our communities, we are expanding nationally — to Georgia, Pennsylvania, Texas and California, critical states where Asian American and Pacific Islanders are the fastest growing populations and where our voices and votes matter.

We are building what hasn’t existed: a national infrastructure to inspire, activate and support Asian American and Pacific Islander women at all stages of the political pipeline - as leaders, organizers and voters.

We are changing the face of leadership and political power.

Join us.

“AAWPI has done exactly what it set out to do: to ensure our community is seen and heard.”

— Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal
